Rockhound State Park

Rockhound State Park in southwestern New Mexico lives up to its name as an abundant source of agates and many volcanic minerals. It is a tempting attraction to rockhounds of all ages, who are allowed to carry out up to 15 pounds of rock for personal collections.

Rockhound State Park allows visitors to keep personal collections from the property. Prospectors are encouraged to bring the tools of the trade, including hammer, chisel and spade, to chip away at the hillsides for a shot at striking real treasures. Some of the precious minerals found are chalcedony, agate, quartz crystals and opal. Miners are just one group that finds great interest in this special spot.
