The park is nestled within the scenic Sangre de Cristo Mountains. It is at the end of a rugged mountain road, where privacy is at a premium. Amenities and activities

Camping in the park is common, with camping vehicles limited to 18 feet and below so that the rustic nature of the park is maintained as much as possible. There are also bathrooms in case you do not want a rustic experience. The lake is stocked with fish and boast ample opportunities to catch kokanee salmon. Boating is allowed, but only for boats with electric motors. Hiking and wildlife observation are also common in the park.

At an elevation of 8,000 feet, this pine-covered park is never accused of looking like a desert. It is one of the most beautiful spots in New Mexico, as well as all of the United States.
