The park is nestled within the scenic Sangre de Cristo Mountains. It is at the end of a rugged mountain road, where privacy is at a premium. The hills are covered with pine trees that both absorb the noises around you as well as provide their own breezy whispering. It is perfect for getting away from the noise of cities, traffic and the demands of modern life.

Amenities and activities

The park has many picnic sites outfitted with tables and fire pits in case you want to grill food over an open flame. Camping in the park is common, with camping vehicles limited to 18 feet and below so that the rustic nature of the park is maintained as much as possible. There are also bathrooms in case you do not want a rustic experience. The lake is stocked with fish and boast ample opportunities to catch kokanee salmon. Boating is allowed, but only for boats with electric motors. Hiking and wildlife observation are also common in the park.

At an elevation of 8,000 feet, this pine-covered park is never accused of looking like a desert. It is one of the most beautiful spots in New Mexico, as well as all of the United States. If you need a break from everyday life, but do not have a fortune to spend, then Morphy Lake is an idyllic choice to recharge.
