El Vado Lake State Park, a winter nesting site for bald eagles, is popular among birdwatchers. Anglers enjoy the rainbow trout, brown trout and kokonee salmon that are often found in quiet coves surrounding the lake. Other species of wildlife include bear and deer.

Water activities

Boat speeds are not restricted on El Vado Lake, so this is the spot for jet-skiing, water-skiing and general boating.

The location of El Vado Lake State Park makes it popular among outdoor enthusiasts. The park encompasses several thousand acres, allowing for abundant outdoor activities. A number of amenities make this natural gem in New Mexico more accessible and family-friendly.
