Claims to fame

One of this park's main claims to fame is the populations of bald eagles and golden eagles, since both species nest in the area. The bald eagles prefer the lower, flatter areas in the park, while the golden eagles tend to nest at the foothills of the Caballo Mountains.

Plant life

Visitors are also enamored by the abundance of unique plants in this park. Yucca, cow's tongue and prickly pears are just a few of the species that are seen.

Water activities

Caballo Lake is an excellent place to escape the hot summer sun. The park allows jet skiing and windsurfing on the lake. Guests can also swim in designated areas and have the option of fishing in other areas. The most common species in the lake are northern pike, sunfish and crappie. Some rainbow trout are also caught.

Camping

Those who want to spend more than one day in the park are invited to camp overnight. There are several developed campsites overlooking the lake. Bathhouses and a dump site are provided.
